Here is something that may interest others who are trying to figure out how to effectively hang fenders where they want them.

I was considering how to attach two fenders off my cockpit when docked against my floating dock. My hawse pipe for the aft cleats go through the transom so last summer my fenders were attached through my rod holders and tied off at the bottom. This made them a pain to set and put away.

I considered a bracket but that was recommended for vertical mounting, not horizontal or a recessed cleat. The cleat meant drilling a big hole.

A few months ago, there was an article about innovative ways to place fenders in Motorboating (I think). They suggested a dowl with a hole drilled in it for use with a rod holder.

I cut several lengths of 1 1/4 white PVC, glued a cap on one end, drilled a hole and bolted a SS eye bolt through it. Fits in the rod holders like a glove, does not look bad and I didn't put any more holes in my boat.

Just thought someone else might benefit.
