I have some fuel tank covers that I built that will have seats mounted on top of them.I was wondering the best method to cover them.I will be coating them in resin, either polyester or epoxy. Here's where I get stumped.Should I lay vinyl on over the resin to adhere it or should I wait and just pull and staple it? I was also thinking that since I have some extra gel coat could I just gel coat the wood or does it still need to be sealed with resin anyway.I am not that worried about gloss finish on these interior pieces so sanding won't be a big problem and they aren't mounted yet anyway so they could be done easily. The same applies for floor of boat but it has been coated with fiber glass already.I think gel would be better than carpet.Yes ,no?

Appreciate input as always.

Thanx

I would coat them with the resin because Gelcoat will absorb water. I would add gelcoat after the resin. Or cover them with vinyl after the resin has cured, wrapping the edges around to the back and stapling with Monel staples.
