I have been using Meguires Products for my Spring clean up or years. But I have been reading and hearing about Buff Magic. Has anyone used both and if so which one gave the best results

I've used both product lines, Meguires and Buff Magic/Pro Polish. In my opinion, the Meguires does a very good job. However, the Buff Magic/Pro Polish does an excellent job.

I intend to continue using the Buff Magic/Pro Polish products. If you make the switch, you won't be disappointed.

If you want to clean the gel coat and apply an OK wax, use the Maguires. If you want to clean and polish the gelcoat, use Buff Magic. I've never been impressed with the ability of the cleaner wax to remove even light oxidation. I quit using wax when I found these products.

I have been using the Fleet wax. Now you guys say don't use wax anymore. So, OK, I will switch to the BM/PP. Seems to be unanamous here. Hopefully, I should have power & water restored to our pier and then it's cleaning time. Our marina is tearing down concrete piers and installing floating piers.

Ron, just make sure you use a rotary buffer for the Buff Magic and not an orbital. You're going to love this stuff.

Greg,

What goes wrong with an orbital, like the Porter Cable 7424?

I have no experience with the Porter Cable 7424. I do know that if you use a regular orbital buffer, you will be wasting time and product. This stuff is made to be used with rotary buffers.

at what speed should i use my buffing wheel at with buff magic? What color foam pad should be used??

I try to keep my buffer uder 2000 rpm. I use yellow foam pads, others like white wool pads.

I use the whool pads all the time...are the yellow foam pads absorbant?? is there a residue left over?

are they absorbant? To a degeree, just like a foam applicator pad you use by hand. Residual?--Yery little after a few passes with the buffer. I do a 2 - 3 foot section at a time and then buff with a terry cloth towel.

where do folks find good selections of different pads?

Got a 10" buffer from HD as a freebie. It is a Ryobi RB101.
The machine rotates but also orbits at same time. Does this sound like something to use with Buff magic??

Greg, Thanks for the advice. I have a Chicago variable speed orbital but I also have a big rotary a shipmate gave me. So I will make sure to use the big rotary for Buff Magic. Then I guess I can use the orbital for Pro Polish since I have an over abundant supply of pads for it. No matter what it still is interesting to run a buffer with one hand while hanging onto the side of the boat with the other. Gives the arms a real workout.

+1

I used the Finesse It 2 Glaze followed by Pro Polish on the topisides this past weekend and she looks fantastic. I initially used the Makita buffer with a wool pad, with the Finesse IT, but switched to the Porter Cable Orbital, orange foam pad, as it was easier.
