C Map Cartridges

I researched and I called Raymarine and Jepperson to see if my Raytheon RL80 CRC Plus could take both C Map NT and C Map NT+ cartridges. Both said yes and pointed me to a list of machines and sure enough both were checked for my machine.

So I went to ebay and found the NT+ that I wanted. After I got it I find that it is a different physical size than my old NT. So I called Jepperson again that they said, "Oh yeah, different brands of plotters take different shaped cartridges".

My NT is 1.3/4" wide by 1" The NT+ is 1" square and will not plug into my machine.

Does anyone know which brand of plotter takes the square cartridge so I can re list it on ebay? This one is Jacksonville to Ft. Myers.

Sounds like you bought an SD Card, you need a C-Card. I went through a similar situation with the same unit. My only suggestion, once you figure out what card you have (Google all pertinent numbers on it) and sell it, I would not spend up to $200 on the correct chart, unless you are looking for the same minimal detail that the units came with back in the early 2000's. I bought a 2012 version and it was identical to my 2003 version, little to no detail. Ended up selling my chart for a 40% loss. I picked up a Garmin 547xs and now use the Raymarine for radar and fish finder only. Even an iPad with navigational software will be 100% more usual than the old unit and new card.

Good luck

The ebay seller answered my question. It is called a FP Card and fits Furuno Radar/Plotters. I wish that had been mentioned in the description. The picture was not enough for me to tell that the shape was different from a C Card. I put it for sale on ebay.

I wish they'd simply make those "cards" so you could download your own charts and update them, but of course there's always a money issue. New cards are expensive, up-to-date, downloaded charts from NOAA are free.

The silver lining to all this...maybe...is that Jeppersen will give me a mail-in $50 pre-paid Visa card if I buy a new C card and send them my old card.

I found out that I can send in the FP card that I accidentally purchased (same coverage area) instead of my old C card that is in the plotter now.

So, I bought a 2013 version from Landfall for $179.00 + $15.00 shipping. When I get my pre-paid Visa card for $50 I will be out a net of whatever and have the latest card with a much wider coverage area than I had.

???

I can download our charts...

Ours happen to be free MapMedia raster and vector charts for Furuno/MaxSea (NOAA source)... but I could also choose vector charts from C-Map or Navionics if I wanted to...

I'd have thought most companies offer the download option now.

Same for software updates.

???

Maybe they do now, I haven't checked lately. My old Garmin didn't offer that option. While the "display" model had the chip in it the one I bought didn't, and buying it of course was nearly as much as the GPS. So I simply hooked it up to my laptop... Better display anyway.

I'll have to check and see if it's possible to put the NOAA charts on the chip. Maybe someone sells the software?

As far as I know there is no way to connect my Raymarine RL80CRC+ to a computer. It only has two slots for C Map cartridges.

If anyone knows how I can download charts (which I have done to my laptop) to this Radar/Plotter I would be very interested in knowing how.

When I am underway I keep my laptop running Offshore Navigator down in the cabin and my tablet running Navionics on the bridge as a back up. Both have up to date charts.

Can you not open up the C-Map cartridges (SD, CF, whatever they are) on a drive on your computer? Could just be a simple file transfer... Have you asked C-Map (Jeppesen)?

My Raymarine Radar/Plotter only accepts C Map C Cards.

C Map C cards are rectangular about 3/4" high by 1.5" wide with beveled edges. The back side contains gold metal contact strips.

I never seen a slot on a computer that would accept the card. The one I am getting is from Landfall Navigation and they burn in the charts when you order it.

If anyone knows how to beat this system I would really like to know but I think it is propitiatory.
