looking for snap down carpet for my cockpit. can i do it myself or should i have someone else do it

Depends on how good you are and type/thickness of carpet. You'll need to edge all sides and install the snaps. You might think of paying someplace to do the edging, as a household sewing machine likely can't do it.

I replaced mine last year with carpet from R&R textiles. I traced, very carefully, the old carpet and sent the tracings to them. They cut and put binding on the carpet and I installed the snaps when I got it back. The snaps need to be done with the carpet on the boat to make sure it lays flat. I recommend them, reasonable price and very nice looking, high quality carpet. You can look at their website and then call and they'll send samples of the one's you like.
