The week of August 5th, (Actual day depending on weather) A hot air Balloon race will take place from Norwalk Connecticut to Long Island. The event is to raise $$ for The Children's Miracle Network. Seven to Ten Hot Air Balloons will take part in the race. The race is a kickoff event for the Metro NY Balloon and Music Festival at Brookhaven Airport August 10- 12th. (See Link) The festival will be raising $$$ for CMN, Komens, and other charities as well.

We will need 10 - 12 boats to act as chase craft and follow the balloons over the sound. Gas will be paid for, or you may take a charitable deduction for gas purchased with receipt. I boat on the south shore but have a good friend on the northshore. We are registered and will spend tuesday nt on the boat in Norwalk and follow our balloon on Wednesday. Thanks all to this thread.
 
Ok - so who else is doing this besides us?
 
Will be in Atlantic City or we would have been interested.

Seems like a worthwhile event.

Forgot to mention, comp docking in Norwalk the night before. We pick up dinner too.We pay gas or you can donate the gas to CMN we will give recipt. What a deal!
 
For the record, we can't allow charity solicitations on the forum, no matter how good the cause - especially without prior permission. We'd have a forum full of requests from donations from both legitimate organizations and scammers.
 
That's why I deleted both threads from HRCC.
 
This is one reason why I feel a moderator only forum can be helpful. We are all human with different failings. A place where we as moderators can privately debate an issue about what is and isn't allowed here would make things flow a bit better. Overall things flow very nicely here but once in a while I'd love to be able to reach out and get other opinions. In fact yesterday I needed to track down Les to confer on an issue which could have been handled just as well with a peer review system.

Just my 2 cents and probably not even worth that much...
 
I get solicited everday at work. Hate it as we all do. I can totally understand the no soliciting rules here, but I am glad this one sneaked through.
I think if someone asked me at work if I could take my boat out and provide support for a good cause, I would say....You had me at "could you take your boat out?".
I will report back in a few days if thats o.k.
 
I never thought I would create such a wake.Was not my intention at all.Just needed some help out on the water. The launch for tomorrow morning is cancelled. Winds will not be blowing the right direction. Good news is, all the boats are staying or coming back for the extra day and our probablilty of launch for Thursday is 90%!!!!! I'm pumped. should be great!

We are on for the launch tomorrow 6AM! If your interested watch News 12 starting at 6am. One of the anchors from News 12 will be flying over in a balloon. Chase boats following. Weather is perfect for this tomorrow, like somebodys watching over us! It's only been done a few times in history!Keeping my fingers crossed!
 
Just got back and the race was cancelled. These wonderful balloons are only capable of controlling 2 directions, up and down. Everything else is up to the wind. Today they would have ended up going west towards the airport. Had a good time meeting the pilots and watching as they inflated (you are not allowed to say" blow up" as they are FAA regulated aircraft) the balloons. Better luck next year.
 
I'm sorry to hear that. I was supposed to be one of the chase boats as well. We came out from Jersey City Tuesday afternoon and were at the dinner. I sat with two of the Remax pilots. I was dissappointed that the race was cancelled for Wednesday because I couldn't stay for Thursday. We left Wednesday afternoon.
 
Hi Michael... to bad it was canceled. How was the ride through Hell Gate? Hit it at slack tide or did you have some fun?
