Diesel soot on transom

I tried Yacht Brite 'Pro Polish' and it still required a stronger cleaner than a boat wash. I then used Rejex which is available at True Value hardware stores. Most of the soot washes of with a hose with the rest coming off with a boat soap and a brush. After a dozen or so washes, it is still working.
 
Startron claims to eliminate the soot problem, don't know if it works but might be worth a try.
 
Try Zaino. It's the only "wax" that I've used that will stand up to degreaser. I used it on the transom of one boat with a soot issue and I found the soot much easier to remove. In some cases, short or up wind trip, I did not have to use a strong detergent soap or degreaser to remove the soot. And when the soot was bad, I could wash the transom 4 or 5 different times with degreaser before the water stopped beading up indicating the Zaino had been stripped off.

I had used Rejex with good success, and after switching to the Technol product line for diesel fuel treatment, we have pretty much eliminated any soot. FWIW,,,when I had a problem a few yrs. ago, I used scrubbing bubbles in a spray can to eliminate the soot when washing. If interested google Technol.c
 
A product called "Roll OFF" a liquid in a gal bottle will clean the diesel soot right off.
 
My Volvo 31's were soot monsters. They liked to smoke just sitting at idle and that's just how they were designed. If you tried simple green on that mess, the mess would just laugh at you. I tried everything and the only thing that would work was compound.

Our old Perkins 6.354's were the same way.
