I spent a couple hours on Saturday engineering a shifter for my 15 hp johnson. I want to be to sit on the seat in the middle of the boat and be able to shift. The johnson has the shifter on the starboard side of the engine. i also need it to be easily removed and installed so it is not in the way when there are more aboard.

I have already built the tiller/throtle extention out of pvc pipe.

I tried using an auto choke cable but that has too much flex so I ended up building it out of 1/2" PVC pipe. it runs alongside the throttle then across the front of the engine and then back to the shift lever. It IS FUNCTIONAL......BUT it is not very pleasing to the eye.

So who has a better way to do this. I was thinking about a selanoid that would push and pull the shifter but it would need three positions and powere of some sort.

i converted a tiller mariner to remote last year, i ended up using a standard shifter cable... i connected the end to the shifting lever on the side of the engine and attached the cable using a plastic window saver

if you dont' want to buy a set of control you can make one up with a piece of tube... if you want the shift control on the PVC tiller extension, you could route the shifter cable inside the extention and mount a something at the end. could be like a push/pull knob...

any old junk boats in your area to scrounge parts??

thanks pascal, that may work with a push pull knob. It needs to be out of the way and easy to remove/bypass because when others are with me we ride the tubes. its only 11 foot. I need a remote controled selenoid or something. We'll see what we can find in a cable like yours this weekend.

thanks again
