I've been asked to strip and recoat the brightwork on a 60' Ocean Alexander. The owner has requested 5 coats, but wants the first 2 to be an epoxy product. Are epoxy coatings compatible with spar varnish? Is this a good idea, to start with epoxy, then switch to spar varnish? I've always used spar varnish alone for all coats, and don't really want to deal with epoxy.
Also, what is the best/quickest method to strip the old finish off without harming the surrounding gelcoat?
