My 1985 Chris Constellation was painted a number of years ago with Awlgrip. It is now faded and has no shine at all. Awlgrip website recommends their poly surface "restorer", but I've not been real happy with other similar products (e.g. Polyglow).

I plan to use a mild cleaner to get the surface as good as possible and wax (probably Collinite?). While I wait for the Awlgrip folks to respond to my e-mail, does anyone else have any good processes for cleaning/restoring Awlgrip?

The prescribed method by the boat yard we use (up in Baltimore, BTW) is buffing with 3M Finnesse-It II and then seal with Rejex. I had this done last spring and have been happy with the results. The boat has been up to Massachusetts and down here to Hollywood FL (and various S FL environs) in the meantime and looks pretty good, I think. You can see stuff clearly reflected in the hull, like a well polished car. I'd avoid using any kind of wax on Imron or Awlgrip.

Let us know what Awlgrip says. I'm sure their answer will also get you the results you need. Their solution is going to be something compatible with the particular properties of this kind of paint, so don't let other experiences "cloud" your judgement, so to speak.

I'd do as George suggests. Or use a couple of coats or so of Zaino after the polishing.

And I don't believe Awlgrip's poly is any like Polyglow.

or use foam polishing pad glaze little less oily than finnesse it. boat wash marine.
