Hard to get back to neutral

It's a 99 SeaRay 215 EC with Merc 305 EFI Alpha 1 Gen II. Shifter and cables were replaced at local SeaRay 2-3 seasons ago, the problem is when running on trailer with muffs on, shifter works fine from forward to neutral and form reverse to neutral but when in the water, it's "hanging" in forward gear when shifted it back to neutral from forward, have to make a quick shift to reverse and then back to neutral to get the boat stop moving, cables adjustment has been done from time to time at SeaRay but problem persisted, any idea what to look for next is appreciated? Shift Spring guide assy?
 
Thank You. I'll look into it, Back then when shift interupter wasn't working , I got different symptom, that's why I didn't think it may cause problem, Thanks again.
 
For the Alpha drives the interupter MUST work or you will have a very hard time coming out of gear IN THE WATER . It does not/should not activate on land
