I can't remember. If you are filling large holes in the deck, like 3/4 inch and you want to gel coat back on top of the patch...do you fill the hole with epoxy or with resin and hardner? One gelcoat will stick to and one it won't. I can't remember

Gel-coat is a Polyester based product,......

Fill your hole with a Polyester Resin,....
'cause Polyester doesn't Stick so well to Epoxy resins.....

The easiest and the best bonding when using gelcoat as a finish will be to use either a vinyl ester or polyester filler in the filling stages.

Marinetex is an epoxy.

I think that I have vinyl ester. I will call the mfg and see. I wonder if West sells the resin and hardner? What do I use to thicken it? I plan to drill out the holes a slight amount to get rid of the temporary silicon caulk and to fill in virgin core.

According to my factory they only use vinyl ester in the hulls. My top is polyester. They said to use Formula 27 polyester putty by Evercoat. West sells several size containers.

To thicken, you can add thixotropic powder or microballons.

you can also make a wood plug very close to the size and resin/hardener that in. that will save you some product and mess
