Recently bought a 1998 370 Carver Voyager. The gen-set ran for 4 hours during the survey without a hiccup. Took two days to bring it home and now it won't start. Cranks over but no spark at the plugs. Need to get this running in the next week so I can winterize. Only have the owners manual, can't find a service manual. Thanks for any suggestion.

Well this morning it starts but when I let go of the starter switch it stop! Is this progess?

Don't know anything about your model specific but in general; Start/run switches/circuits and inter locks.
Oil level, oil pressure switch. The actual ignition it self, coil, module, points if installed.

Avoid excess craning without starting because if you have a water lift muffler you will drown the engine. Close the sea cock.

Sounds like there is a switch or solenoid with a run and start position. the run position has some fault. either a safety shut down feature, low oil pressure etc., or bad connection.
Wiring diagrams should be on the makers web site.

Better to be lucky....unplugged everything connected to a board in the control box including the capacitor. Plugged it all back in and varooooom. Runs and produces power just in time to be winterized.

Replace the plugs. I had very similar issue. Old plugs looked fine but wouldn't start. Replaced plugs and started right up.
Good luck
