We are trying to replace a KVH M3 with a new KVH M1dx so we can get HD programming thru dish network. Previously we had directv with the M3 with no issues apart from the SD content.

The location is in Fort Lauderdale FL, does anyone have an M1 unit in that general area with dishnetwork? If so do you have reasonably good satellite signal reception with the smaller M1 and Dish Networks broadcast signal? According to the broadcast maps we are on the edge of the coverage area and I'm wondering if that is an issue with the smaller antenna?

I'm not sure why anyone would want HD over Digital DTV unless you have a Plasma and a large screen. I'd be more concerned about loss of signal during rain aka rain fade using the smaller dish and HDTV over Direct w/KVH M3 on DTV.

How about flipping in a different transponder?

Have you talked to KVH yet?

Yes I spoke with KVH, anything smaller than the 7 series cannot track both ku and ka band.

If you want network programming from one of the 3 networks DTV is an option but all other programming is out.

That's correct the TracVision 7 is needed to be able to track and receive Ku & Ka bands.

Ok, but what about retrofitting the Dish Transponder to the M3?

When I installed an M1 a few years ago, Dish was not compatible. It was DirecTV or nothing. Not that it can't change.

The only problem I ever had with the M1 was parking in the shadow of a bridge over the Ashley River in Charleston. It wasn't the antenna's fault.

I've had no problem bringing in Dish Network signal from 61.5 or 72.7 locations in Fort Lauderdale and I was just there last month. I've had good reception through the Keys and even through the Abacos. The only limit to coverage I see noted by KVH is the TV1 system does not support 61.5 and 72.7. But it appears the M1 does.

Can you manually switch sats on the M1 between the networks (locals) and the others like CNN?
