Hello All,

I have a 26 Rinker that has an L bench. It (obviously) runs along the port side of the cockpit and then juts out. The part that juts out has the problem. The wood in the seat back has gotten wet and disintegrated. Has anyone run into this problem? Any how to's? Does anyone know of anyone in the Port Jeff/Mt. Sinai area that does this kind of work? I guess if I could get the vinyl seat off the bench I could replace the wood but I don't want to damage the vinyl. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks...UB

You might give Rinker a call. I hear they have great customer service! If you can't find someone who does boat upholstery in your area, check out auto upholstery guys.

You need to find a local upholstery shop. When they rebuild the seat, I'd have them use something like Starboard instead of wood to avoid future rot issues. I doubt the manufacturer is going to be much help here.

Go to this site: http://www.upholster.com/ and ask your question. The members on that forum are very helpful in all matters of upholstery and fabric. Most boat manufacturers don't use plywood any longer in their seat frames. They use some type of plastic sheet material, but I can't remember what type of plastic is normally used now. The members on the referenced web site will help you. Also, I am a fellow Rinker owner and their customer service is top notch, so I wouldn't hesitate to call them.

Thanks for all the replies!!! I'll try Rinker tomorrow and see where that takes me. I also was given the name of a local guy who does canvas and upholstery and I'll see if he has any experience with this. Definitely not going to use wood again!!!

Thanks...UB
