Day 5 we entered the St Clair river thru the North Channel. It was amazing to see all the island homes. We based up at a little gas dock, and made our way up the river, and called it a day at Port Huron. The winds were up there, so we figured we would wait to enter Lake Huron till the next mooring. I have to give Lake Huron credit, most everything was closed down for Memorial Day. Not so goof for us though, but we did find two restaurants open. One however ran out of food. So we went to HAC (AKA Trio) for lunch. Great food and service. We then took time to catch up on emails and work related stuff, took a nap and headed out for dinner. At this point only one place was open the Zebra Bar and Grill. Amazingly cheap prices and decent food.
We spend the evening playing cards and having a few cocktails.
Yesterday we then headed out from Port Huron, North to the Michigan side. We had to revise our plans to stop in Georgian Bay and the North Channel, as most gas stops are either not open or just open on weekends. With a cruise distance of 150 miles, it just wasn't a safe risk. So we will just be doing the North Channel, and gassing back up in Michigan's U.P.
We stopped in Port Sanilac for gas and lunch, and made Thunder bay about 7 last night. Just outside of Port Sanilac, we lost our alternator. They however did not have one in stock, so we ran the generator to keep the batteries up, and will try the local parts house today, they open in a half hour.

Bummer on the alternator, hopefully the part store has them in stock and you get replace it quickly.

Sounds like a great trip Tim. If you are coming through the North Channel or end up near Drummond Island and need something, let me know. We have friends there who we meet up with year after year that can move mountains if needed.

Thanks Max, we are by Drummond island tonight in fact.we anchored off Harris island for the night.

Tim it sounds like things are going well it was a good idea to run the genny so the battery charger would keep the engine charged.
Good luck on replacing the alternator.
Bill

Thanks Bill, we had to wait a couple hours this AM , but a local mechanic got ahold of one in Thunder Bay, best part I didn't even have to get dirty, he put it in for $60 cash.
