No Holding Tank, Purasan with a port-a-potty

We recently bought a Sea Ray 300 Sedan Bridge with a unique head. The previous owner had holding tank issues, so he removed the holding tank and replaced the toilet with a manual port-a-potty that has PVC pipe to the pump-out fitting. We are strongly considering getting a Purasan system. Will we need to replace the toilet? If needing to replace the toilet, is there one that is the most compatible with the Purasan system and no holding tank? Thank you. We are extremely new to the big boating scene.

Where do you do your boating? Reason I ask is that more and more places are enacting ‘no discharge’ rules - so even though the discharge from your purasan may be cleaner than the water your are pumping into, and is almost certainly cleaner than what the municipalities and waterfront residences are dumping into the water, you are still prohibited from discharging overboard.

if you go with the purasan, almost any marine head should work. But not a ‘porta potty’, something with a manual or electric pump to fill and empty. My understanding is that some of the more expensive options are sort of overkill - as one of their primary benefits is that they use a low amount of water - which is irrelevant if you are pumping overboard, as opposed to filling a tank.

Thank you so much for the advice. We are on the Mississippi a little north of St. Louis.

I believe type 1 MSD's ( purasan, or similar treatment system) are legal to discharge on the Mississippi. But you would have to confirm this with your own research.

I've owned boats with holding tanks, and boats with type 1 treatment systems. In my opinion, holding tanks are somewhat of a nightmare, but the treatment systems have issues as well. There's the cost, and the prohibition from using while docked, in protected waters, etc.

I've been hearing a lot recently about 'composting toilets', but don't know much about them.
