non skid refinish

I just read an interesting article in a boating magazine about using penetrol to restore areas such as non skid. They used a short nap 3" roller to apply [after a thorough cleaning] and stressed to put it on in thin coats to avoid peeling. Penetrol will "soak" into the gel coat and supposedly brings back the original color. Has anyone tried that? Made me wonder for a minute if I accidently discovered the secret of Woody Wax.
Penetrol is a paint additive that helps the brushing consistency of oil paints and is available in most paint stores.

It's still a temporary fix at best. It's also been used on chalky, dull gelcoat to bring luster up somewhat.

I had a dark blue boat that was pretty heavily oxidized. I tried Penitrol, compound then Penitrol, and just 3M compound wax. I couldn't tell a difference in the finish. As time progresses, maybe I'll see a differenc, but not at this time.
