Painting Engine Bilge

This boat doesn't have a full "engine compartment." More like a shallow lower deck with a recess between stringers in the middle of it. Sea Ray finished it in a matte gray that's probably related to gel coat. Engine'll be out and I want it "neat" when it goes back. Not show quality and boat's not up for sale.
I plan to scrub it with detergent, even something like Comet, and if it looks OK that's all I'll probably do.
But if it "needs paint" then what'll work? There'll be water standing in it.

Call Sea Ray and find out what paint they used on the boat.

You want them to be compatible. Also for the color to match.

I did mine in gleaming white epoxy bottom paint. Tuff stuff. Brightens the bilge and makes it much easier to see under there.

Battleship gray is the cheapest color they can get. It's probably deck and porch paint anyway.

Yep!

White is right in a bilge.

Unless you are planning to pull everything out of the bilge, it's not so easy to change the color of the bilge and have it look great. Wires, cables, batteries, everything must be moved in order to do it properly.

Just my opinion. White is better but he has a grey bilge to start.
