Looking at removing an older tape boot stripe. Its starting to peel from age and sun, id guess.

The stripe has been on the boat for 23 years. Ive heard that oven cleaner will take it off.

Ive tried that rubber eraser that goes on the drill, and I cant seem to ever get that to work correctly..

Any ideas? suggestions??

how are you using the eraser? I won't use anythiing else.

Obviously, it attaches to the drill. Im not putting too much pressure down on it and I move it slowly side to side or up and down....

I removed mine last year and it was on the boat for 25 years. Like yours, mine was peeling off in spots. Because it is loose you probably wont need anything as harsh as oven cleaner or razor blade. Mine came off using a hair dryer. Heat the stripe as you slowly pull it off. You will be suprised how easy it is. I did my 32 foot boat in about an hour.

+1

Did my boat recently 4x50ft stripes in under 3 hours. However I used a Snap On heat gun.

Ill give the hair dryer and heat gun a try...

Thanks guys!

Ditto on the hair dryer. Just the right heat without making the tape to soft and pull it back over its self slowly.

If you can't get graphics off with the wheel, then you're doing something wrong. Try more pressure, or spin it faster. In my experience, nothing works better. Tat's why auto body shops use them.

I took mine off last spring with a product called 747 Adhesive Remover. I bought it at F&D Hardware on Montauk Highway in Copiague.
My boat is blocked up with the bow facing south, so I let the morning sun heat up the port side, applied the 747 Adhesive Remover, and wused a razor blade to get it all off. It took just a few minutes.
I did the starboard side after letting the afternoon sun heat it up.
I got replacement Boot Stripe from the sign place right near F&D.
