The snap in carpet on my Regal 2120 Bow Rider is starting to loose it's rubber backing.. The carpet itself is in good shape. Is there anything I can do to stop this, and or is there maybe a rubber spray on that I can use to build it back up in spots, mostly around the snaps...

Thanks

We were sold the wrong carpet three years ago (glue down instead of snap in type) and the backing started to go the first year. Couldn't get the guy to do anything about it, so I tried the aerosol "Plasti Dip" rubberized spray. Went through 3 cans after the first season, and another 3 last year. Plan on doing in again before launch in the spring. Its not perfect, but it has pretty much stopped the breakdown of the backing on the carpet and provided a somewhat useable rubber backing. Figure I can get a year or two more before I replace the carpet with the right carpet, but at $4 a can, its not an expensive fix.

Thanks.. That is what I was looking for, I will got grab a can or two tomorrow..

Just have a few spots were the rubber is gone and want to prolong the inevitable.. Especially when the co-captain is out of work.. :)

just an update, used the plasti-dip. Found a can at Home Depot. I used the can and brushed it on. looks like it is covering to beare spots very well. Will send an update after a couple of uses..

When you do replace the carpet, do NOT get the rubberized backing type. The same problem will occur over and over again. I had a top grade commercial indoor carpet without any backing made for my boat. I've had it five years with no wear and tear showing. Even if the snaps are not snapped, the carpet lays flat and stays put. No rubber for me!!!!

Cool, thanks for the tip.. I was kind of wondering why the rubber backing, I am guessing to keep it from slipping??? Don't know. I did end up replacing a handful of the snaps on the carpet, hopefully they will be better.

Thanks again.

Not sure....I had carpet with rubber backing on my 1986 Bayliner cuddy, but it was glued in----until the rubber started coming off of the carpet. What a mess!!!! Never again.
