Hi All,

The padded vinyl on the walls and bulkheads of my boat must be breaking down (1991 Wellcraft). It all 'looks' good, but it's sticky to the touch. I tried some Windex on it to no avail. I was thinking about trying some 303, but I have a feeling that it won't help.

Anyone else experienced this?

Thanks,
Paul

I'd try a Vinyl cleaner. I don't think the vinyl is breaking down. Old vinyl usually cracks it doesn't get sticky? It sound like a lot of old dirt.

if not dirt then somebody "cleaned" it with MEK or Lacquer thinner.

Thanks folks. I'll try the 3M vinyl cleaner I got over the weekend; maybe follow with the 303 Protectant and see how that goes.

Paul, the sticky vinyl is from exudation of plasticizer. This can happen from any number of reasons. Try washing off with alcohol. If that isn't strong enuff; gradually increase to stronger solvents. Once plasticizer is removed; I'd apply 303 Vinyl & Rubber Protectant. “NOT” Fabric Guard. This will not eliminate problem indefinitely. It will reoccur !

Okay--that's what I was thinking too. Reminded me of older cars where you get that on the dashboard and see that film on the inside of the windows.

Thanks for excellent advice Bob.
