Surveyor Needed ASAP

If they are allowing you to choose your own surveyor, but not the one you chose, something is very strange. It could be that there is a history behind the surveyor of your original choice that is not suitable for MM. But still seems odd…… I would dig for a reason.
Supposedly he had an argument with the original owner of SS3, who still manages the local Marine Max operation. This surveyor did my current Sea Ray. He sweats a lot of detail and is big on the water intrusion issues, some boats have top side, where things are attached to the deck (i.e. Windlass, hatches, bow rail, etc. Due to the issues he has caused, and probably a few lost sales or lost margin from his surveys, they do not allow him on their property any longer.
I scheduled this entire week around this surveyor's schedule and my mechanic's schedule, for nothing. I took off 2 days this week for nothing!

I know of the moisture meter surveyor you are talking about and how he rarely lets anyone buy a boat. I almost used him once and ended up using Mike Kermidas who writes the survey plus column for that Long island boating paper. Liked him alot.

Seems to me that if the guy is doing a good job identifying water intrusion issues, he is EXACTLY the type of guy you want. Remember, once you buy the boat, you buy all the problems. Better to spend the bucks ahead of time and negotiate, than to be stuck paying all the bills on your own later.
Based on one of your recommended surveyors, I have him surveying boat tomorrow. Wish me luck!

A surveyor does not stop anyone from buying a boat. Based on a surveyors findings, you decide to buy or not to buy the boat. Or have the price adjusted or the necessary repairs done by the selling party.
I'd rather have a surveyor that sweats every detail, allowing me to make an informed decision. Obviously the opposite of what the selling party wants!

A moisture meter will always find evidence of water and an over zealous surveyor will write a report that will not allow you to obtain insurance on the boat. So unless you pay another surveyor on a boat, he can prevent you from buying it.
A few years back I spoke to the moisture meter surveyor for about 30 minutes on the phone. Without seeing the boat, he told me where he was going to find moisture problems on the boat I was interested in. Concerned I asked around and a few trusted marina mechanics,(not surveyors) knew of him and told me, everything he does is based on his moisture meter and almost never recommends a boat he surveys.
I used Mike, he spent alot of time on the boat I was looking at, checked every system and reported on everything. Good and bad. Yes he used a moisture meter on the deck and other spots. I was comfortable buying the boat and chances are I might not have if I used the other guy.
