I went to look at a 2007 Glastron 205 bow rider today with my brother in law and nephew. The boat was on the hard.

The boat appeared to be in above average condition with a few exceptions (cracked ski locker hatch and failed stitching in a few of the seats. The 5.0L Merc appeared in good condition and all of the electric components fired up.

We were thinking we might have the right boat until we observed numerous blisters on the wet portion of the hull. The boat has been kept in the water in a upstate NY fresh water cool lake for the past seven summers. Of the approximately 50-60 blisters of varying sizes, several had cracks and one had completely had the gel coat and resin chipped off.

To me this is a showstopper unless the current owner would compensate for the amount of work that needs to be done. Asking price is $16,500.

Does any one have any idea what the price tag would be to grind out the blisters, dry, fill in, re-gel coat and apply a Barrier Coat on a boat this size?

Any other opinions are welcome.

Jim

Depends on the depth of the blisters, who is doing the work and where. Off hand, to have it done professionally to what you spec'd I would guess at least 6K.

Move on. Blisters can be repaired but pro's in our area say they always come back.

Too many boats available to settle for one with problems.

The fact is, all boats get blisters and especially fresh water boats. You will be hard pressed to find one with more than a few years on it in fresh water without blisters unless it has been barrier coated.

certainly makes the case for barrier coating and bottom paint if a boat is to remain in the water for any period of time.
