4th of July Plans

We plan to get to Zach's Bay early on the 4th and enjoy the fireworks from there. Early on the 5th I want to make my way over to Sailor's Haven (1st choice), or Watch Hill (2nd choice). We will stay at FI till Sat.

What is everybody else doing?

Tom & Lisa, you guys can raft with us at Zach's if you want, and/or make the run to Fire Island with us.
 
No boats, Just hanging at the beach all day and watch fire works at night.

Rob, we will let you know what time we can join you on July 4th. Wish we could join you in WH but we have to go back to work the next day.....have to keep the "moolah" coming so we can afford to pay for our boating lifestyle.

On the 4th we are hanging at the LIYC…… Pool, BBQ, Tiki bar maybe a little tennis… Watch the local fire works off of Babylon point. We have been away almost every weekend since mid April… I was getting some comments that the Rear Commodore needs to have a presence there so I gave in for the day. The following week on 7/12 I am on a boating vacation for almost two weeks.….

Andy, did you verify the tides since you are so close in clearance ?

Melanie & I had to go to Fl for a couple of days & I will do a little research when we get back - I think we will be ok as long as we go thru during low tide
 
Does anyone know the specific height of the bridge clearance in Shinnecock? According to the specs, Our boat's bridge clearance is 14' but with the radar and anchor light it could be a total of 18'

Lowest bridge is 22 ft at mean tide. At low you are probably looking at 24 ft. The bad thing about low in shinnecock is the locks may be open with the water rushing towards rthe bay.

Andy, do you have antennas u can lower to reduce the height? I think you will be fine.

Dave, I would call the locks, If I recall from a past check it was 19' 5" at the RR bridge. Just to be safe.

I had it on my previous year trip plan.
 
I was also told it was 19.5 feet even though my charts say 22 feet!

Dave I can drop my antennas but i am still at 19+ feet so I will have to time my travel for anything lower than high tide- then i think i will be ok
 
19.5 is the minimum at high tide, 22 is the mean, 24.5 is low.

I think as long as you do anything less than high, you will be ok. When we get to the locks, we can ask the lockmaster, he should know.

We are looking at some nasty weather here in mystic soon, we are sealing up. Looks like a tstorm is rolling in.

We just had it here in huntington and it pasted in 60 min- it was nasty

When are you and Walter thinking of getting into Sag on friday?
BTW: I think you will have better weather friday than your going to have later today
 
Dunno. We are in no rush and we are with a third boat who is not joining us in sag.
I figure it will be a 2 hour run from here. Need to pumpout, got fuel.
Figure we leave dock around noon or so, pumpout, head down river, probably be there by 3:00 the latest.

I was stuck in DC for the day and just had to grab the ACELA to get back to NY-grab a cab at Penn to pick up my car at LaGuardia and then drive home to Huntington- Soooooo we will not be leaving in the AM.
We should get out by 1 or 2 and get to Sag by 4-5ish
Will catch up with you then – have a safe trip
 
Guess dave thought otherwise... He doesnt do that with out merit !

we are running at 23knots with a full load of fuel (and all the other stuff you 'need' for 10days) up the sound and will be at Sag before 5PM
