The Yonkers Police Department's marine unit was first on the scene, followed by the Westchester County police, then the Rockland Sheriff's patrol boat and the state police river patrol boat. A police boat operated jointly by Greenburgh, Dobbs Ferry and Sleepy Hollow police then arrived and helped with traffic control, O'Leary said.



FIVE different agencies were able to respond. Where were the USCG, CGAUX Parks Department and several fire boats that are on the river? Our tax dollars at work!

I'm not sure I'd agree with that, since when there is an accident on the road that gets things balled up it's not unusual to see a few cruisers arrive.
I like the idea of traffic control if a boat is sinking. It also gives people the impression they should back down which reduces the likelyhood of being waked when you are in a bad way. So if the operative word "bit" is taken literally, perhaps yes.
I know that on Sat. the CG was active all over the river. How we made it past them without being stopped this year is beyond me! Normally we always get 'the season pass', or receipt of boarding.
