Has anyone been to Abaco/Marsh Harbor or Hopetown since 2007?

Thinking of visiting again. Wondered what, if anything, has changed in the last 17 years.

We'd fly in from FL.

Well yes we have but not after Dorian. Elbow was built up quite a bit. It got to the point we no longer enjoyed going. We started in the Fall of 2008 and by 2016 we no longer went back. Restaurants would close for special occasions, snooty well offs would garner attention by flipping 100's on the table so no one else would get service. It used to be we could walk from Sea Spray on the beach up to the Reef Bar and back, and not see any foot prints except our own. We were lucky not to get run over by a quad runner in the later years.
But it could still work.

Seems like the best places eventually become overrun and crowded, especially at peak tourist season.

I talked up Hopetown so much Cindy is ready to go.

We'd probably stay in Cherokee Village, visit Pete's Pub (if it's still there), and try Hopetown at least once.

Thanks, Dan.

Bruce just be careful about when you go as I know Pete's shuts down for the "H season". That place was our favorite stop. Pick up a mooring ball, dink in for lunch with a blaster, and walk the beach. They had the best fish sandwiches. Abaco Inn and On Da Beach were always favorites.
We would rent a car once in a while and drive about. We passed through Cherokee a couple of times and stopped to take a photo of the "long dock". It looks like that has taken a hit. Cherokee was real quiet I'd opt for Elbow still. We did spend a week over there with friends that flew over with us.
It looks like the Abaco Inn is still running.

Appreciate the heads up and info. Probably go early next year, after hurricane season.

Had not considered staying on Elbow, just a visit, but worth considering.

Given the number of rentals there, I am thinking a reasonable stay is possible. Stop in Marsh, load up a cooler with food, and bring it all to a rental on Elbow. BTDT and it worked. Just make sure your rental has an operational generator. Bring all you can from Marsh regardless of where you go. We would take a 13' dink across the Sea of Abaco to Marsh and back when we wanted to shop. Got beat up a couple of times but it was always worthwhile.

Been looking at Google Earth pics of Abaco. Street view images dated 1/2020 show much hurricane damage, but aerial images dated 3/2024 show much improvement.

Rentals are available in Hopetown, and understandably pricier than Marsh. Not checked Cherokee yet.

Can't believe it's been 17 years since last visit.

Abaco still has a lot work to do regarding Dorian, but, they have rebuilt enough that we had a great time.

Here's a few pics taken with phone.. Pete's Pub (closed); Coop's near Treasure Cay; view of our apartment in Marsh Harbour..

We just about had the place to ouselves, very few tourists, no crowds.

Great photos! Pete's was closed? I would have thought the website would have said what was up. Hopefully things are going well otherwise.

Oh well. Hopefully you had a great time over there. We keep talking about a trip over to reminisce.

Yes, we both did. Cindy had never been. I'd go back anytime..

These pics were taken with the Nikon..

It looks like you got up in the Elbow Cay Lighthouse. When we were docked at the Hope Town Inn and Marina we got to know one of the lighthouse keepers as he also helped out there. He let us up into the light when he was lighting it up. It is sort of a large Coleman Lantern and it lets out a good POP when it lights up.

Yes, all 101 steps. 😎

We didn't see anyone during the lighthouse visit, except the girl that sold me a t shirt..
