Does anybody have any info. on the accident that occured this weekend?
 
There was one near 8 Mile Rd. I hear that one person died when the boat hit the levee going at speed.

I can't find anything on internet sites for Stockton Record, Contra Costa Times or KCRA.......
 
I would think they were going much faster than 15-20 knots. I'm surprise this sort of thing does not happen more often with the numerous fast boats going through dark sloughs with no radar.
 
I don't care what kind of boat it is, to land 150 inland after hitting the levee....it had to be flying. Even a 14ft aluminum with a 25 hp engine can get up and go but 150 ft...I don't know. I've spent many, many hours on the delta at night and you never want to travel more that 5-10 knots even under the best of conditions. I was going to Vieira's coming from Rio Vista (Fosters Big Horn to be exact)one night and it was very dark. The bridge and town were well lit but after going under the bridge it got dark. We were doing about ten knots with no danger of hitting a levee as we were in the middle of the river. But because it was dark, I hit a floating log I could not see, hard enough to knock me off the helm and kill the engine. Fortunatly little damage was done, the engine restarted and we completed our little trip. Had I been all drunked up and going 30-40 mph, I would have ended up in the river a lot worse for wear.

Exactly. For him to be able to scale a 30-40 degree angle of uneven rip rap and even make it over the levee let alone 150 feet inland, he had to be hauling.
 
I'm old, slow, and I don't drink. So it's a pretty good bet I didn't know the owner. But the numbers I have heard were 24' boat, doing "speed runs" on the river at about 80 mph.

I also don't know that the stage of the tide was when they wrecked, but at high tide you can really launch those suckers a long ways. At low tide you tend to face plant into the rip rap.

launching themselves off the rip rap ramp at 80 mph probably shot them in the air at least 50 feet. Made for a pretty hard landing.
 
I saw that boat the next day. It was doing a bit more than 15-20 (insert cough here). The boat was not visible from the water side at all. It was all the way over the levee road and half way down the other side.
 
No records there Flutterby. Big wave runners will do over 70.
And they don't even have props, they just squirt water.
 
Boy, FindMe lwhere have YOU been hiding???? I thought you must have died or moved to Timbucktwo..... Too bad you missed our Spring Fling. It was a blast with a bunch of great people!
