I would like to install a vinyl name on my boat and it says to clean the hull with acetone prior to application. Will Acetone have any negative effects on glass hull? Will it cause any discoloration? Please advise. Thanks.
not if used then cleaned back off. If you are just cleaning the hull you can take a rag with acetone wipe down area then I would wipe down with clean rag. It will not hurt the gel coat but it will eat off all the wax.
I use acetone to remove scuff marks from the hull on our boat. I've used it on the white and black areas, no discoloration. I just followed up with a rag that had some water/vinegar mix on it afterwards to remove the acetone. I was told that the professional detailers use this method aswell. Just re-wax the area when your done.
