Not sure if this was mentioned ...

About RPM marina in Lindenhurst being sold ?

Don,

What type of marina was it ? Meaning a boat yard type or more like the AYC.

Family owned....new & used boat sales...maybe 50 +/- slips....hoist...repairs...parts(Merc)...fuel...etc. Nice place.

Don didn't the town buy it to turn the venics back to a "park" or something similiar to it

Lou.....that's what I heard.....I just didn't believe it....... a " PARK " ???? I guess Tanner Park is to small.

The result of tax dollars in the hands of elected town officals.

I heard the same, that the town bought it to make it back into a park which it originally was, I think back in the 1920s. I had read a history of the area once and my dad had told me about it. There was a park area, the center section that sticks out into the canal had an area for concerts, and there were gondolas like in Venice to take people for rides.

From what I heard there will still be dock space, but less than there is now. So I supposed it will be a town marina/park. Normally I like the idea of more parks, but I don't see that as a good spot for one, and you hate to see more dockspace and winter storage space disappear. But the story I heard was that the owner is losing money and is looking to get out of the place. I don't know the details though and couldn't say for sure how accurate what little I did here is.

John..... I also heard they will restore the building to the way it was in the 20's and will bring back the gondolas and rides thru the Venice. I agree....it doesn't seam like a very good spot for a park.....but at least it's not going condo's like Hidden Harbor Marina.

I wonder if the town will maintain the fuel dock ??

Don, yeah, the place has been looking kind of run down for a while, so it may be a good thing. Better the park and some dock spaces than condos. I'm not sure about the fuel dock but I tend to doubt it... Much bigger liability issues and insurance when fuel is involved.

Yes....better no condos....and Im sure the gas liability thing is an issue too. But....hey maybe a gondola ride on a warm summer night thru the Venice will be fun !! I wonder if the gondolier will sing too ???
