I'm maintaining a 1988 Rinker, and it seems to be getting more labor intensive every year. Although she still looks pretty good, the polishing/waxing routine is getting kind of old. One of the fishing websites I frequent mentioned 'Ploy-Glow', (check the link). Anybody have any experience good or bad with it
?

Hopefully the link works. May have to cut and paste.

thanks

Just wait this topic comes up once a month and I have heard both good and bad. As a matter of fact I brought this topic up maybe 6 months ago and my decision is to stay clear of the product. Just weait your going to hear both good and bad. If you become a member and buy your anchor you can go back and search and see the previous postings.

Here's one from the first week in March.

My boat is 15 yrs old and gets detailed by a pro every spring. The gelcoat looks brand new!

If you're paying to have it detailed by a pro every year.. that pretty much takes care of the "labor intensive" issue skipjack refers to.

Poliglow, glorified acrylic floor wax at 10 times the price.

Subject to yellowing just like your kitchen floor. You will find those that swear by it and those that swear at it. Seems you have to prep the surface VERY well and apply multiple coats or you WILL have problems. Removing the stuff is difficult but the job can be made easier by using commercial floor wax stripper.

Or, in other words... read the directions :)

So you are paying the outrageous price for floor wax to get the instructions?

Makes perfect sense now! ;)

if it is floor wax would it make sence to put future floor polish on your boat if you wanted to spruce it up a bit?

rommer and I don't always agree on how stuff works or should be fixed but that's the American way. On poli-glow however I agree 110%. If you have terminal cancer and four weeks to live someone will sell you something guaranteed to make you well enough to play softball in six weeks. These same folks sell poli-glow, Island Girl and products like that. There is no easy way, floor wax is floor wax and I don't even know anyone who uses it any more unless they have linoleum. And most of that, I think, is pretty much maintenance free. So unless you have linoleum or asphalt tile on your boat you're better off breaking a sweat and go the compound and cleaner and wax route.

Or, you can do like me and hire it done. Lots easier. I'll service my diesels, dredge my slip, wash all the windows in my house (10,000 square foot house, LOTS of windows), wash the cars and do my own plumbing but I pay someone to wax my boat.
Good luck,
Mike, Palm Coast, FL

I would venture to guess that if the boat is aging, you are as well. I don't know about you, but sh!t don't get easier as I get older and my time has a price. IMHO, getting a pro to do it and you maintaining it during the year is going to be a ton easier than anything else. In the big scheme of things, the cost is slim if you value your time.

That is what 2 cents gets you today. :)

I had it on my Sea Ray and at first it looked nice but it ended up being a night mare, trying to take it off, trying not to get runs in it etc. Never again. I'll sell you some cheap.

skipjack, since this is one of those love it / hate it deals (maybe more hate than love).. perhaps you could provide the test platform. Sacrifice your transom, for example (thus minimizing your losses).. to a poliglow whipping. Document, monitor, photograph your findings.. and let us know. :)

Bill C.. The thought crossed my mind, (and I still may). Being on the frugal, (read that cheap), side, I hate to throw money away towards something that could cause me additional grief.

I've heard good things about 'waxing frenzy', so I'm going to have to weigh my options. (I've tried the various Meguires and others and although happy with them initially, they just don't seem to last. If I do any testing, I will document and post.

Thanks for the replies...
