Any tips for applying 2.5" wide boot stripe tape, my main problem is that a slight curve is required to allow it to follow the contour at the bow. The stripe tends to bunch up and not lay right when I try to curve it.

Thanks
Lou

Try slightly warming the tape--the heat will allow it to be stretched to follow the contour. I replaced the stripe on my vessel and this technique worked.

You'll definitely need the addition of heat, so the stripe can be stretched.

Get yourself a hair dryer and a helper. Apply enough heat to allow the tape to stretch, but not too much, where it starts to distort. You'll get the feel for it once you start. You should also buy a couple of plastic squeegees. These will help with forcing out the air. Don't worry if you have some small air bubbles that can't be removed. Puncture them with a pin and smooth them out. After sitting in the sun for a few days, they'll totally disappear.

Try starting in the back and working your way to the bow. I'm no expert, but Ii've found it's much easier that way.
Enlist a helper to squeegee out the bubbles as you move along.

Also use a soapy mix of water in a sprayer before laying down the tape/stripe. This allows for a little movement and helps when using the squeegee to remove bubbles. A little heat will go a long way...be careful.

I am thinking about doing this on mine next year. I found a sign shop that can make the original 3 color stripe for my 1987 Chaparral but they could only do this in 8' strips. Is that ok? I would overlap so the more front pieces are over the further back ones so in forward movement, it would stop lifting but if there a place to just get one big stripe?

I just installed new stripes on my bridge and cabing this afternoon. there was a curve in the front. Didnt use heat just aplication fluid. it allows you to move it without wrinkling the tape.
