We ate there last night and had the Paesano burger. It was delicious, MUCH better than the Water Club and about 1/2 the price.

Stayed on the boat overnight, nothing like waking up in the boat.

Excellent! Especially because the Water Club was not even open.

BTW, it's nice to see that they took up several parking spaces with some sort of wooden fence...

Good view of the kids jacking up the car and taking your wheels off. Lol

No I said the Water Club was closed, so there was no concern someone would vandalize our car in the Haverstraw parking lot.

Hey, if the view (if the restaurant is open) is worth paying twice as much for a burger that is half as good, then enjoy the Water Club.

Burgers are great at HWC. Worth the extra 3 bucks to eat one out on the deck while listening to one of the bands. I do admit Babes has great food but for some reason I never make it over there. It is a seedy part of town but the ribs are amazing. BTW, I'm sure the wood in the parking lot is for more upgrades. They are still working out there at 7 tonight. How are the burgers over at Penny Bridge?

The food at Gilligan’s was pretty good the last time we were there.

Downtown Haverstraw. We will go there one night. From the outside, you would not want to go in but the food is excellent. Five minutes from our boats.

We like Gilligans to but I didn't know it is part of Penny Bridge now.

My wife is not fond of Gilligans in fact she doesn't want to go back. I have eaten 4 times at the water club this month alone and I have been happy with every meal! I happen to like it there and if it costs a few dollars more so be it. Be the way Hogan if you were a member you would get a discount, oh that's right you're afraid of the deep water.

We have attempted to eat at the water club several times. The first time was so-so. The second time we ate there they ran out of food. about the only thing they had left was there high priced burgers and fries that they love to put extra salt on. My dr. really loves that. The last time they would not let us sit outside on a beautiful day. Did I mention there were about half a dozen tables that people were at. I think it may have been my last time. View is great but the price for a 50/50 chance that the meal will be good just does not seem worth it to me.

That's odd I really haven't had a bad meal yet and any guest that I have brought has like it as well. I had several similar experiences at Gilligans noisy pricey and lousy service. Last time I was there, there was a family that let the kid run around the place and was making a lot of noise in the process. When they finally went to leave they simply yelled at her from the far side of the restaurant I guess it was an apples and trees thing. While this is not the restaurant's fault they should have said something because they where disturbing many other customers. Then while I was eating busboy decided to sweep the floor all around me and frankly I was annoyed. I guess every restaurant has its good days and bad. I would go back to their Pomona location I have always been happy there!

Dave, I have to agree about Gilligans. We ate there a couple of weeks ago and our server Marissa was beyone terrible. Everyone else working there was running around, she was too busy talking to her friends and showing them pix on her phone to serve us.

Also, the food has WAY too much garlic - and it's the stuff out of a jar...

Burgers at PBM are excellent, you walk about 100' to your grill, cook them up the way you like and eat them at a picnic table right on the water. How are the grills at Haverstraw?

Babes not in downtown Haverstraw, you might be thinking of Union or Antoine McGuires, both in downtown Haverstraw & both very good. Babes is on Railroad ave in West Haverstraw. Babes is also very good, I have gotten a bad meal or two there but if you eat out often enough that is going to happen anywhere you go regardless of how high end or low end the establisment may be. I am in the food business so I am not real picky or critical when I eat out, I know what to expect & what not to expect & in general, I am just thrilled someone else has done the shopping, cooking & cleaning up afterwards!!

Having said that, you have to take each restaurant for what it is...or trying to be. Babes is small & very manageable on the food side. They have a huge bar business & that is their cash cow. Even on the busiest of nights chances of getting a good meal are better than not. I will & do eat at Gilligans but in all honesty, it is basically fast food seafood, a step above Red Lobster. You are not going to find highly trained chefs or inovative recipes. It is designed for an ok meal and high table turnover. Not one of my favorite places, especially for seafood, but there are lots of people that love being near the water eating a seafood meal close to home even if its not the greatest, so it works!

I also go to the Water Club on occasion too and I don't hate it but it's by far not one of my favorites. I wish they were like a previous restaurant there (don't remember name). It was simple, affordable and very, very good! I just feel this place tries to be more than it can be. Trys to present very high end but doesn't have the back or front of house staff to support that. It's a confusing business plan IMHO. As far as being willing to pay higher prices for the view...no thanks.I never understood a boater saying that. Non-boater for sure but not boater. For me, I will head over to north or south Croton (preferably south) fire up my grill, cook up whatever interests me that night, swim, read and have a great "view" of all the people at the Water Club ready to chow down on their legs cause their food take so long to get.

I totally agree with you there. I think BBQing on my swim platform is such a kick. whether it's at the Crotons, Bowline, the Sound or anywhere! I really enjoy doing that. It's just one of those things that make me feel so lucky and grateful to have a boat

I could have written that response for you. I knew that was coming.

Agree on all written above except for the one comment on service at HWC. In the past we would not go because the service was horrible and the food was marginal. I have found the service the last two years very good. However, I would like to see a more casual menu.
