Hi Everyone,

I am moving in with my fiance tonight and i want to surprise her with crabcakes (they are her favorite dish) for when she gets home. Can anyone tell me where the best crabcakes are? I am in Merrick and will drive a bit for them. I want to get some sides too (definitely mashed potatoes).

Are EB Elliot crabcakes any good? I know there are lots of fine seafood restaurants in Freeport. Doesn't have to be Freeport Need help fast. Thanks for any info

All the best,

Alan

Hi and thanks MTN,

I would attempt cooking them but I'll be running around like a chicken without a head getting stuff ready and i won't have time to shop ingredients and cook. Thanks again though.

Don, Are they cooked already? Or do I need to fry them?

Also try the Nautilus Cafe or 42 Woodcleft, the Cafe has great food, but I do remember having excellent crabcakes at 42.

Plaza seafood on merrick rd just west of merrick ave, starfish rest. hewlit ave. and merrick rd., crabshack in freeport, hudson and mccoy in freeport and others that I don't recall now. alan

The below recipe was published in our LIYC cook book. [:-chef]

Brad’s Across The Dock Crab Cakes

1 pound fresh Lump or Backfin Crabmeat – Picked over for shells
1 egg
1 tablespoon mayonnaise
2 teaspoons Dijon mustard
2 teaspoons Old Bay
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley
2 tablespoons cracker meal or as needed

Place crabmeat in a medium to large mixing bowl and set aside.

In a small bowl, combine egg, mayonnaise, mustard, Old bay and Parsley. Mix well.

Sprinkle cracker meal over crabmeat and then pour the egg mixture over the top.

Gently toss or fold the ingredients, taking care not to break up the lumps of crabmeat, (too much). Add more cracker meal if mixture is too wet.

Form Crabmeat mixture into 3” by 1’ mounds (like a small hamburger)

For cooking there are 2 options: Sauté or Deep Fry

Sauté (which is my choice) in a non stick pan with a little vegetable oil and / or butter. Cook for about 3-4 minutes each side. Place on dish with paper towels to drain.

Deep Fry – Heat Vegetable oil to 375 , place 2 or 3 in fryer for about 3 minutes or until golden brown. Place on dish with paper towels to drain.

For the eating pleasure:
Place a crab cake on a bun along with some tarter sauce.
My favorite is a hollandaise sauce on top with a little salad on the side.
A squeeze of lemon on crab cake adds a zest

since i am from maryland and love the crabcakes "maryland style" not florida style. i alway order from Gandmcrabcakes in linthicum md. they ship overnight and i belive you can buy side to go with it.

i am very critical on crabcake as i grew up catching, steaming, and picking my own crabs...to date i have found no place better.

Southside's crab cakes are FROZEN - they buy them from Restaurant Depot. About the only thing that is NOT goos at Southside.

Jordans Lobster and Market in Barnum Island, Island Park is a winner. You can even dock and pick em up. Everything here is fresh...Old school
Enjoy

I was wondering also about Rob and Dave, Robski is back.... But maybe Dave is aground in a Non-WI-FI zone.

Hi Everyone,

Wow, glad to see that this forum is a little more "relaxed" than others with regards to certain content.

I wanna thank everyone for the help but I did not yet get to do the crabcake thing. Will be doing it this weekend instead as a crisis came up.

Lets see...where to start......Double D.....c'mon, get with the program, there are no such things as bearded clams these days and many women are now doing wax jobs. I happen to prefer the unbearded clam.

No Walter, no crabs were exchanged but that was very funny. With regards to sausage...no there was no sausage given either. What
you should have asked me was if there was any Keilbasa shared. lol

Alliecat, thats a good idea. I never went there but heard that they have amazing seafood.

Thank you again everyone for your help and recipes. You are all invited to the wedding......yeah right. I will invite you to the clam bake we are going to have as an engagement pqrty. It will be somewhere on the south shore....c'mon up to the beach.....i'll have a lobster and cold one waiting for ya all

Dave is actually working these days. :(

Alan,
Great come back, also this forum is a little more "relaxed", but don't think the rest are, once everyone gets to know you the let things slide.
