I have an older Bayliner. It used puny 1X4" wood for gunnels. I want to replace the material and make it a least 1" thick. The gunnel will need to support the Scotty downrigger and flush mount rod holders.
Do you think Starboard would be strong enough to resist the twisting that a downrigger would put on the gunnel or, should I use some kind of hard wood. The following picture shows how little fiberglass I have to mount the gunnel to. Thanks in advance...
