My whole engine room in my 3067 is painted black.....Is this the factory color if so Why would they do that. I cant tell if there are any leaks or anything of that nature...No stains etc... I have to pull the engines soon and was wondering what is the best White bilge/ engine compartment paint??? This boat is new to me....1989 3067 with twin 260 mercs stern drive.. awesome boat got it for 15000.00 need minor repairs... I think i stole it :) :)
 
I cant help you with the type of paint, I would suggest a light color, not necessarily white. My bildge is a light gray (factory silverton) and looks great for a 20 year old bildge. I have seen white bildges in older boats and they look dingy, very hard to keep looking good - For whatever thats worth.
 
Black was the factory color back then...my Montego is black. They went to gray and are now at white with their bilge gelcoat...and yes...it is gelcoat
 
I freshened up my bilge when I had the engine out. It was white and I used white gelcoat. Lots of prep work so it would adhere properly. My biggest complaint about a snow white bilge is its hard to keep clean. If it was off-white to beige, it would not show every water spot or speck of dirt.

I want to know if something is leaking. White shows it off best

while I have the engines out do ya'll think it would be a good Idea to install some LEDs under the engine ans such for later maintence
 
Make sure whatever you do is ignition protected. You don't want any sparks under your engine!!!
 
Just did mine last year in Bilgecoat, light Gray. Holds up great, and still allows you to see problems easily (ie., water marks, oil leaks, etc). Black provides no reflective qualities making it harder to see in a space already difficult to light. I recommend you change color.
 
Bildgekoat is an Interlux product, and is ready to apply in several colors. We sell mostly the gray shade.

YES - the last place you want any potential ignition source is underneath your engine...
 
have to check out the local marine dealer for this stuff and I think i'll look tomorrow for the LEDs on Ebay
