My 5 year old Bimini top is leaking - looks like some of the seams on the top of the Bimini where there are channels for attachment to the frame have pulled the seams a bit, enlarging the needle holes.

The Bimini is a Sunbrella like material - same color and texture as regular Sunbrella on the topside - but a vinyl like finish on the underside.

What is my fix for this problem - except for the leaks, Bimini is in good shape. I'm thinking of running a very thin bead of silicone on the underside. Will this work??

Thanks

Try a wax stick. You can usually find them in camping supply stores.

I WAS thinking of wax or the kind of Bees Wax that you apply to snow boots. Problem with that, at least my thinking is that the intense heat of the sun would melt it, making it rain wax inside insead of water!

Love the: Health nuts are going to feel stupid someday, lying in hospitals dying of nothing.

Not saying do as I do "BUT" I do it "ALL" ! Eat & drink whatever & whenever I want. I'm 69 & look 99.....just kidding; feel 39 ! Most people say I'm 59 or younger; just today for that matter. I guess it's all in the genes!

OK maybe it's me but what are you talking about and what does this have to do with leaky canvas???????

Dave, you're not alone on this one!

NOT ONE DAMN THING ! Just my comment to post that said: Health nuts are going to feel stupid someday, lying in hospitals dying of nothing.
Am I allowed to express my opinion or does it have to do with leaking canvas only ???? If so, delete my post !!

Leaky canvas and dripping wax -

Glad you like the tag line - your comments (both) gave me a much needed chuckle!

Sorry I thought I was missing something and I guess I was I didn't see the tag line. I had no idea where that was coming from.
Anyway I agree with the wax I don't believe it will drip.

Go to an outdoor outfitter that sells top quality tents and buy a can of seam sealer. It's made specifically for the problem mentioned.

Thanks - Thats what I was looking for . . . I was in the camping store last night . . . If I had only known then what I know now . . .

Back when I had a bimini I used Scotchgard. Worked for me.

Boy, I missed the boat on Bob J's post too. I thought the point was that he was 69 and still didn't leak. My boat windows leak more than I do, and like the rest of us, I hope thats always the case.
