No doubt boating improves our sense of being alert. The boater in Watertown, MA saw something unusual in his trailered boat and called 911. Great job! Only thing different is the news referred to the shrink wrap as a "tarp".

Am I missing something, or is the "PRESS" showing some restraint? I can't find where they have identified him by name.

They had his kid (stepson) on last night speaking for the family. Mom is in ill health, so they want to keep the "noise" to a min.

Turns out my old man knows the guy well. From what I hear, he is going to be pissed about his boat.

If I lived in an area where there was an active manhunt and I saw blood on my boat I would NOT go looking in that boat. I would call the police and let them look in the boat. Meanwhile keeping on eye on the boat.

That guy could have been shot or maybe scared away the subject.

George

From what I understand he will have a lot of work filling the bullet holes.

Mike - All things considered, your dad's friend was pretty lucky things didn't go worse for him when he looked under the "tarp."

Any idea what the boat is?

For a brief time at least, I suspect in an ebay auction that boat or parts might fetch a few times it's normal value . And barring that somewhat revolting thought, the city of Boston ought to buy him a brand new better boat with free fuel for his major contribution to the subsequent capture.

I want to see how his insurance claim is handled.

It was reportedly a 22' SeaHawk and even though I expect the boat will be replaced by an official MA entity, there is interest in appreciation-contributing:

Plus he ought to be at the head of the line for at least part of the offered reward, though such offers may sometimes disappear after captures.

I think the man who was car-jacked was laying claim to reward also.

That boat is evidence now he will never see it again. It will be held until all appeals are exhausted or the suspect is put to death.

Edit- In aerial thermal pics of Tsarnaev in the boat, the boat kind of looks a little bigger than 22' and perhaps a SeaRay or(?)instead??

I feel for the guy's boat and all, but how do we replace Martin? Just wanted y'all to keep this in the proper perspective.

People use the word 'hero' way too much these days. This guy is lucky he did not get his head shot off. If my neighborhood was in lock down due to a terrorist being in the area the lat thing I would do is grab a ladder and go see whats under the bloody tarp. I'd be on the phone to the cops watching the boat from inside my house (where the people in his area were told to stay).

I don't see any of his actions making him a hero.

There was an interview with the owner on our local channel (WCVB 5)this morning. He reported there was no blood on the outside, only that the cover was out of place. Nothing made him suspicious there was a person hiding inside when he went out to check after the order to hunker down was lifted. Also, as for the money people want to send him, he wants it donated to the victims. Class act.

Some people choose to not live their life in fear.

He actually had checked on the boat twice, he was worried about some padding under the shrinkwrap that had shifted in the winds that day. On his second trip he decided to climb a ladder to take a closer look, that's when he realized someone was inside the boat. When he first saw the blood inside the boat he wasn't sure what was up - he then saw the guy laying there and high tailed it inside to call 911. Like a lot of us would do, he was obsessing over something with his boat. Although not physically hurt, like the hundreds of other's he is an innocent victim - unfortunatly for everyone there is no place to turn for restituion.
