As I type this, I mentally thank all of you for your regular posts on BoaterEd. Unfortunately, reading them is going to be the extent of my boating this season. I'm having neck/spinal surgey on the 21st and have already been told by three surgeons that boating is out for the season. As a matter of fact, driving is going to be out for a good part of the summer. So, I want you to know that I cherish reading your posts, even the ones about problems and complaints. I'll continue posting until the 20th and will resume just as soon as I can. I will be in the hospital until sometime between the 24th and the 27th, depending on recovery, so I will miss you all during that time. I won't even be allowed to use my smartphone because I'll be in ICU. What a bummer! Have a great season, all, and keep posting. Hy

Wow! That pretty much bites. Here's best wishes for a speedy, complete and successful recovery!

Boating vicariously through our posts, next best thing! Good luck with the surgery and wishing you a speedy recovery as well!

Good luck with the surgery

Hope to see you back online soon

Best luck with the surgery ... and a speedy recovery!

I have a suspicion that littlebookworm is spending a whole lot less on his boating "adventure" than the rest of us. Maybe we should pay attention??

I wish you the best. I have been down with one thing or the other since January but I expect to be out boating soon.

Perhaps you can get a ride on a trawler this summer. Slower and less bouncing around.

Now for the real question......

What costs more surgery or boating?

Best wishes Hy! You'll enjoy next season that much more :)

Thanks, guys. Oh, thanks to Medicare and my health insurance coverage, our boat definitely cost more than my surgery. However, my surgery in a real pain-in-the-neck, both literally and figuratively! (Sorry, I've been an educator for over 40 years so it's hard to resist the pun.) Our son-in-law and daughter have a 46' cruiser with a beam over 12' and the surgeons have still said that I can't enjoy it. Their concern is that the rocking side-to-side might rip out the screws and plate they're putting in to secure my neck vertibrae. If that happens, I'll be a bobble-doll! Hy

I hope all goes well and you have a quick recovery.

Best wishes , Hy, and don't let the bed-boats bite!
Hope the new work gets you back out on the water in better shape than ever.

I just had the surgery done in March, they said the boating was out for 6 months. First 2 weeks could not do anything then I started doing things. In about a month boat was in the water and I was on it. You will be fine I surprise my doctor on how quick I healed.

Good luck with the surgery. Hope you have a speedy recovery too.
