OK many local yards sound as if they do not even know what composite drives are and then not sure about bottom painting them. My dealer says they do not need to be painted. What is the opinion here? The boat will stay in water most of the time and will be kept in salt water. (Florida ICW) It seems to me this is a reason for the composite material but in boating things aren't always what they seem!

The main reason for composite was to avert corrosion. It is still going to need some protection against mother nature. There are folks who put some type of lanolin on their outdrives. I don't know if this will work for composites.

You need to keep a tight eye on the composite drive. They are prone to bellows failure amongst other things. The concept is incredible. The execution left something to be desired.

A google search will help you.
