Hi I have a SEARAY SRV200 Avicado Color Hull. At the Bow below water line it is White like the waves strip-off the Avicado color gell coat?
Any ideas on how to make it look new again?
other parts on the bottom seem fine.
I just don't understand why its only at the Bow?

I have a distinct feeling that the boat was beached at one time, beached to have fun on the beach, not beached in trouble I hope.

It's hard to believe moving water friction removed colored gel coat down to fiberglass substrate. Is it possible hull was painted? Either way; gel coat or hull paint can be acquired to repair area in question.

I purchase it used so I don't realy know. I don't see any wear on the boats KEEL.
Just the very forward BOW,Not the Keel part. In fact the KEEL is in good shape.
This is why I just don't understand how Water/Waves could turn this Bow area white.

Qestion: Is just under the gell coating White?
And is it posible that gell coating could turn White from gell being Chalk like/Old?
I realy don't understand my self how the BOW KEEL can be good and beside it on both right & left on only the BOW area its white? Very strange.

Gelcoat is colored so the thickness of the gelcoat holds color.

Most likely someone has done repairs.

Ayuh,...... Moving Water,... Does Not,+ will Not Remove Gelcoat.........

I think that what as peeled off is the antifouling bottom paint not gell coat. Probable cause would be that the mould release agent was not cleaned off well before the antifouling was applied.

Or perhaps at some point there has been some interaction with a trailer in that section. Could the boat have been used in an area when & where surface ice could have been a problem?

BTW, I have some nice '70s kitchen appliances that would co-ordinate well with that boat. :D

water will not get gelcoat off...

being a trailer boat, i assume it's not bottom paint... how is the transition between the white streaks and the green ? is it smooth ? if you pass your finger nail on it, does it catch indicating a mechanical scrtach, like from the trailer. if you scratch, does more green come off?

small streaks, long streaks ? how wide ? did someone try to wet sand the hull for some reason and removed an outer GC layer? odd... cna you post pictures ?

I owned a 79 Sea Ray that was Citrus (bright yellow) in color. We kept the boat in the water with no bottom paint on a fresh water lake. After one year in the water the bottom was more or less an off white color below the water line even after an acid wash. The gel coat just changed color from being in the water for 6 months every year. It never bothered us because it was not something you could see especially after a little scum built up. We would scrub the water line once a week and do the smile. Then it got a good acid wash in the fall when we put it away.

My guess is there were scratches or other damage that were filled in with something like Marine-Tex and then faired smooth. It comes in white and grey last time I checked.

A photo would be a great help.

Thank You for the replies. When I get a chance I will post some pictures.
