I bit the bullet and tried buff magic. Hear are my 2 cents....
2006 Monterey with black sides, little to no oxid. only rub marks from fenders.
Used a new wool mid pad. Applied BM in spots with a stick. The BM was thicker than I am use to. It buffed out pretty easy with good results. Is it the end be all? It is a good product and works as advet.
Pro-Polish, New foam pad(black egg crate) the PP put on the pad then on the boat. It thined out very quickly to a haze and buffed away leaving a nice shine.
Something I had to remember was that it IS NOT A WAX! It doesnt act like wax, when applied. I have been waxing and buffing for years and had to change the way I think when using PP.It is very easy to apply. If the PP holds up the way it is advet. I will use it again.
I did a test compairing PP to Meguires Flagship Wax.There was No difference in the shine between either product. As I said if PP will hold up better than the Flagship I will use it again!

Rock,
When you did your test comparing PP to Flagship wax, were they both "over" the BM? And what is your basis for comparison may I ask? Are you looking solely at shine, or did you also check for depth of reflection and clarity of reflection? If this is all the same I would suggest you try using Vitreo, this will clearly give you a different look!

Ok George I’ll bite, since I know you know what you’re talking about here.
Are you saying that you feel Vitreo is better the PM/PP? is the application as easy for a novice?

manmade,My basis for comparison was to see which one looked(shine clarity depth) the best. They were both after the BM, on the same side of hull 2ft by 2ft, side by side. The shine, depth and clarity were the same.It was the end a long day and was in a shady spot. I could see no BIG difference in the two. I know that they are two DIFFERENT products and serve different needs.I just happened to have the Flagship close by in my box of goodies.I worked this boat over 10 months ago with Meguires heavy cut, medium cut, fine cut, machine glaze and Flagship. She was in good shape before the test.I dont think she had much mantainence before I got her. After hours of buffing she looked like new. The only imperfections were from fenders rubbing in spots over the last 2 to 3 months. I am always looking for new products to suit my needs and keep my boat looking good.
The one BIG factor with BM and PP was that Sea Ray uses these products on there NEW molds. You can go to youtube and search Buff Magic. My thinking is this: If sea ray seals the new boats with PP and they still look great after sitting at a dealer for long periods of time in the sun and rain It should do the same for my boat in a covered slip. I am sure that most sea ray dealers dont BUFF there boats before they sell them!?!? This product must be pretty good?!?! Sea Ray like them or not builds a quality product, if I can use tsome of there tricks for shinny hulls I gotta try it.

I used Zaino on the last boat but planned on trying BM and PP on this old boat but I asked a marine supplyrepair house at the Cleveland show on Sunday about Buff Magic and his reply, sarcastically was it does a really good job of putting a shine on top of oxidation. He felt on boats that were newer and didn’t have anymuch oxidation it worked well but in his opinion he would use something else on older boats.

Just another guy’s opinion….

Took all the oxidation off my 14 year old boat! Maybe he doesn't like it because he doesn't sell it and wanted to sell you something else.

No...He sold it and had it in stock but like all of us he had his opinion. I have never used it and I'm looking for opinions and the reason I looked in this thread.

Well then, his is the first bad review I've seen /heard of Buff Magic.

I've used Buff Magic and seemed to work very well!!

Niles, I don't agree with that vendor's assertion that Buff Magic "does a really good job of putting a shine on top of oxidation."

Being an abrasive compound that leaves no polymer or wax layer behind, it sounds to me like he has BM confused with another product.

Just this weekend I broke down and purchased another can of BM. I'm overall a fan, but I was really hoping to put my BM days behind me. I've used it with great succss since '04, but I don't consider it to be the final step. I can improve the finish by following up with Finesse-It on a soft wool pad.

I also appreciate how little of the Finesse-It product is necessary to cover a large area, and the ease of water-only clean-up compared to the messy oil-based Buff Magic.

SLW, I still plan on trying BM and PP, I even have a reminder in my calendar to order it from boatfix in March. I had the boat compounded and "waxed" last year and it is still in good shape so I am going to dawn it and try this stuff.

fastguy91, This was my first time to use the PP. But yes I use a buffer with a Black foam pad when I wax. It looks like an egg crate(kinda. Once you get good with a buffer it is faster than by hand.

Thanks Andy for the compliment. How anyone can say a product puts a shine "over' oxidation should be a signal about their advice! I have been using the BM for a couple of years since Robyn's Nest started talking about it here. I have used it on all types and age boats. I found the Vitreo in September at a small shop in Rochester, NY. It is very easy to put on & wipe off, the caveat is you need to keep it dry for 24 hours. It gave me a noticeably better shine on my hull. Using it on light colored cars it has performed incredibly well. Most waxes/sealants work well on dark surfaces. To get a comparable shine & reflection on a light surface gets my attention! I have talked with the manufacturer (a small manufacturer in Cortland, NY) and he stands by its durability. I will give my hull a light coat in the Spring and then the durability test begins. It is standing up well on the cars I did in the Fall.

PRo Polish should also be kept dry for 24 hrs to allow it to bond to the gelcoat.

I forget what harlan uses but he is pleased as well. I think the nano tech principle is the same.

I use Finess-It-Two and finish off with Leverage, a polymer sealer. Prior to Leverage, I used Mothers paste wax. I don't hink it makes a lot of differenc what you use as long as you use it regularly. Ease of application is anothr issue.

Ease of application is another issue.

...as is clean-up! I never look forward to extracting dried and dirty Buff Magic residue from my expensive pads.

Nice to see another pro Leverage comment. I found it to be really good and probably the easiest in application and removal. I found the trick with Leverage is to keep shaking the bottle since it settles out quickly and to keep your application cloth wet between apps. However, I still say I like the Vitreo as the best top coat, but as may have been said before I think this is a never ending search. But the journey is a ball of fun!

TEST #2: Boat, 2002 Maxum 2500 SCR light oxid. All white hull. No shine on the deck. Not chaulky to the touch. BM did a fine job cutting through the oxid. I didnt have time to follow up with PP, Ran out of daylite. I am impressed with the results in this test. I know that other products could have done it with the same results. I feel like the BM eliminates a step I.E. one compound instead of two! I AM IMPRESSED!

The first test on the Blk hull with little to no imprefections the BM was OK but on the Light to Med Oxid on the White hull it worked great!
