So darn expense?

Perhaps if I lose my job I can make these for a living? I see them normally running for 1K or above. On sale for about $750.00 I saw the lowest price ever today for 300.00. Are they that hard to make? I don't see why a marinized bolster chair costs soooo much!

Mostly because the good ones are made more by people than by machines.

You might be happier with a china made roto molded version with an inexpensive cushion. It will look nice and can be had for just a couple hundred bucks.

No offense but I am hating most products from china even if they are less expensive. At this point I was just real curious to know the why of this situation. If they are handmade then that does give me a better understanding. I am still somewhat perplexed since I see more intricate hand made furniture that can be had for less whose craftsmanship seems to require much more skill than these. Anyway thanks for the education.

the only reason is that they are made for boats.

And if they are made properly they won't fall apart and get crudded up in one year. The other reason they are expensive is that they are a very small market and thus little to no economies of scale and production.

Hogans right......BOAT...."Break Out Another Thousand" If you have a boat your rich! Everything for boats are at least 3X the price.

For the same reason you cannot put a mobile home on a couple of pontoons and call it a house boat....physics!

I recall stepping aboard my second USN ship and noticing the cable ties were welded to the bulkhead every 6-8 inches. I asked the chief engineer why. He said wait until our next North Atlantic cruise....

He was right. In 30 - 40 foot seas, you grab anything to keep from cracking your skull.

The stress in pounds per square inch in multiple directions simultaneously is astronomical.

Are any of them worth it. Not for a minute............until you need it.
