Hey have you guys seen the news (my Facebook friends have!) about the solar powered canal delivery boat Solar Sal and the history making cargo delivery we are undertaking from Lockport to Mechanicville?? Its the first ever delivery across the Erie Canal that doesnt use a drop of fossil fuels (or a mule!). The boat has no gas tank, cant be plugged into shore power yet we are hauling 8000 lbs of recycled cardboard to Cascades Paper in Mechanicville. Its a lot of fun doing this trip, we are in Newark NY as I write this (just west of the Finger Lakes). And its exciting to know that we might have a chance to revolutionize the marine industry, with a boat that can carry cargo or people (imagine a trawler that doesnt use any fuel at all!!!)
Plus as an aside, I appreciated the fact that in crappy weather we can run completely buttoned up without fear of CO fumes - there is no carbon monoxide cause there is no combustion! What a refreshing change, even though we had to run really slow because the light was dim. The boat is performing extremely well thus far!!!
