It's more than overdue...time for new canvas. I'm more than familiar with Patino in Haverstraw. Does anyone have any comments/recommendations on Advantage Canvas in New Windsor, Action Canvas/Upholstery or Seafarer Canvas LLC?

Hey John. I met a couple from your marina last year when I was planning on getting my carpets replaced. Sorry, Can't rememeber their names but I think they said they were on silver dock. They had used Advantage & they were really happy with them. I ultimately decided on using John though & he did a terrific job on my carpets. I used him for my canvas as well a few years ago & had it totally redesigned. Remember how I was unable to sit in my cockpit in even a sun shower w/o getting drenched because of the horrible Chaparral design? Well I can sit there now in a freaking monsoon, not a drop comes in!

Feel free to stop by & take a look. Chances are we won't be there but just go ahead on & look as long as you like. You & Barbara are always welcome!

Judy, I did check out your new canvas shortly after it was done. I also thought Patino did a nice job on your boat. But, I had a new rear piece made by him two seasons ago and I was not happy with the stitching nor the tiny zippers he put in for the roll-up glass...they keep pulling apart. Just looking for other options. Hope you are doing well.

Sorry to hear that. Our canvas has held up very well. After taking it off it's a beast to get back on but that's really the biggest complaint we have & it's a small price to pay fpr keeping the cockpit completely dry. We did have a few issues early on but John addressed them. I'm also very happy w the carpet he made. Good quality, fits perfect & he also made us an awesome runner for the entryway which also fits perfectly.

John, there is a Trojan on blue dock that got a new enclosure with a camper back, I think he said someone across the river did it. It looks like a very nice job. Take a walk over and look at it, then ask him where he got it done. It's a couple of slips past Audrey II, on the other side of the dock.

Mike, I'm guessing that would be Seafarer over in Ossining. I'll check it out next visit to the boat. Thanks.

John, We used Seafarer years ago. The quality of work was great, but just like any other boating contractor the time schedule and promises sucked. We fought several times until finally getting what we agreed upon.

If Heidi still works there, she was a life-saver.

Mike that Trojan belongs to Allen he just left my house a few minutes ago, he has been trying to join this site for a long time I have even sent a couple of emails to Les but no luck. John if you like the job and it was a good job if you don't happen to see him there I can find out for you or I can send you his email and you can ask him yourself.

I'm hoping to get a least one more year out of mine so please let us know who you use and if you are happy with the job when it's done.

i've seen some of the work Sandi at action marine has done, and it looks excellent

Thanks all. It appears that all three choices have done satisfactory work. Time to make some calls. It seems that this is the time of year to get canvas work done in a more timely manner.

If you can fit it a rigid lexan type window is much better than roll up vinyl

I've had her do some work, and she is excellent.

I would not recommend Patino, his work sucks and his time to completion is the worst. I have seen some of Seafarers work and it looks good. Another person to try is Harry Parker in Midland Park Nj, it is called Custom Designer. Great work, on time, but not cheap. You need to negotiate the price.

Everybody has different experiences. Harry Parker came highly recommended
so I used him years ago. He made a freaking mess of some
pretty simple work I gave him. Never again. Guess you gotta just hope
you have a good experience with whoever you choose. It is boating after all
......everything is a challenge. :)

Did they come up with a solution to leaking around the arch? I love my new canvas with that exception. And I have yet to find a Trojan with a solution to that.

No, I believe his still leaks. IMHO, the only solution is to cut the top side piece on the arch and angle it rearward.

John Patino does very good work and is competitivly priced. Like any independent guy who is trying to get your business, he makes you timeline promises that he thinks you want to hear, and then can't live up to them.

A trait that I've found runs through many marine fabricators.

Clearly I am way behind on this as I was only able to join the forum last week.
If it is still on anyone's agenda and want my opinion as I used both seafare and Patino you can email me at

I rather not to post at this point as one of these vendors is still in complete on a job he is doing for me.

This is why I do my own. The only person that can bitch about it is me. Here is what I did a few years ago for our Trojan.
