Ok guys and gals,
I have a black canvas top on my boat. Last year, mold spots covered the underside of the canvas. I cleaned it with YachtBrite General Purpose Cleaner and it took it rite off. I did notice that at the end of last season, it seemed to be coming back.

Any ideas on keeping it off, or is it normally an ongoing problem.

PS: I never had this problem in previous seasons. Only difference is that I waterproofed the top at the beginning of last season.

Had the same problem last year with my new sunbrella camper canvas on my 33 ft cruisers. The cure that I got from Sunbrella was to wash (a mild soap and bleach in a washing machine, no dryers) and then retreat it with Fabric Guard. So I've washed it and then when it gets a little bit warmer I plan to retreat it. Apparently, your canvas may have been treated too heavily and the fabric could not "breathe" or so that is what they told me.

Good luck. I have the detailed instructions from Sunbrella if you are interested.

If you don't want to go through the hassle of removing the canvas from the frame and washing, what worked well on our last boat's Sunbrella enclosure, was Iosso Mildew and Stain Remover.

I would mix a measure of this powder in a bucket of warm water and sponge it onto the underside. In a matter of seconds, all mildew stains would disappear and stay away all season. It's safe for all fabrics and colors.

The greatest cause of mildew growth in the cockpit, is poor ventilation - especially with full and camper enclosures. The excess humidity from showering onboard and boiling water in the galley creates ideal conditions for mold spores. We never totally stopped the problem, but this was the longest lasting and safest remedy we tried.
