I have decided it's time to replace my top I have someone in mind to use but want to hear recommendations before I commit. No I'm not using the local guy I want it done quickly, I'm sure he would do a decent job but lets just pass on that as an option no need to trash him it's not on the table. I only plan on doing this once, I want it done right and I can't sew so I'm not doing it myself.

I don't want to mention who I plan to use until I hear the good the bad and the ugly I don't want anyone to hold back. If it were your boat who would you use and who would you stay away from?

Thanks for the input

If he heard what I was quoted he probably would do the job!

I like the current design I will add a rear window and tie the top to the arch both front and rear but this is about the only changes I'm looking to make. I like having the open back if I go with the camper top I would never take down the rear and have to listen to my wife complain she can't get any sun!

I'd use the guy who has the very best quality based on who others use. See a great looking canvas on a boat? Ask the owner who did it. As you said, you only want to do it once, so get the very best.

I got a quote from the company that did Delivering Happiness's top they did a great job and the seem very professional! I will likely use them I was just hoping for some input.

I would not recommend a window on the back. No need as you take it down when you arrive. Only adding the possibility for cracking, leaking and adding additional UV rays into the boat.

The window is a must I planned on adding it to my current top but never got around to it. If and when I get caught in the rain I like to have my top up but still want to see behind me.

I know, you just want to be able to sneak past my boat without being noticed:)

So no suggestion on who to use? I asked John for an estimate today he said he would call me but didn't ask for my phone number, I know he had my number several years ago but I don't think he still has it. I'm willing to bet the job will be done before I hear from him.

My plan is to launch the boat and take it to the shop to have the work done there unless someone has a better suggestion.

I'd have the biggest "window" put into the canvas as is possible. Amazing how much bigger the cockpit seems when the canvas is closed with that nice big window.......

I have a full camper in the back, huge window with a zipper. It rolls up and two straps hold it up. No leaks, its great for venting the boat when you want to keep the camper closed, have a net in the back.

Still disagree with the window. You are rarely if ever on the boat with the back canvas on. With no window, you just quickly fold up the canvas and toss it somewhere.

Dave, whatever you do, I would NOT go with a screen in any of the windows. They get the window dirty and really block any flow of air. When I had the camper back, I cut the screens out of the windows and got a much better air flow.

As far as the window, it rolls right up with the canvas. You should definitely get it put in. You'll get more light into the boat, and you'll be able to see out if you need to put it up to run in the rain.

I have lived without the window for years and there is no question the new top will have a window not sure on the size but there will definitely be a window. My last boat had a window and yes it was more work to roll it up and store it but I feel like I'm cut off from the world without it.

Dave no you ate getting what you asked for!!! A lot of opinions. Lol. You can always check out my boat and see how the window folds with no damage and so easy, love my screens. Had them on 3 boats. Sorry Mike :-)

Screens are worthless, there are a million places that bugs can get in. All they do is restrict air flow and trap dirt against the eisenglass, plus when they heat up, they damage the eisenglass.

Compare the same age glass on a boat with and without screens, you'll see a huge difference in clarity.

OK no screen but window is a must. I wasn't planning on screen anyway:) With my design if it's nice enough to open and use the screens then I would simply have the entire rear off or rolled up. I was more thinking in terms of who to use not so much what to do. I know what I'm installing I was just hoping for some more endorsements for the company I'm planing to use for the install.

So I guess I will try it this way has anyway every used Sea Fair Canvas and if so are you happy with the job? I have only seen one boat they did and it looks like they did a great job but I would feel better hearing the same from others.
