I am considering a 2827 carver 1988 model. What are the things to look for? Common problems? I am also looking for a trailer to haul it and for storage? What is best? I have a dualie truck already.

One quick and easy thing to do is feel around the weep holes in the engine compartment and under the cabin sole for soft wood.

Check stringers, then check again.

Other than the flat bottom and mediocre handling in the chop, it is a great boat with more room than you can imagine to store (collect) alot of stuff (Crap). I just hauled out my '86 2897 and it took 2.5 car loads to get all of the stuff (crap) home.

As always, have a survey completed.

I do recommend that you get a survey...they know what to look for on most boats...especially one as popular as the 2827/2897. I just had mine surveyed (for piece of mind...I've had her for 10 years) and, thank God, no surprises...she garnered an "Above Average Condition" with only "Bristol" being better. Aside from what Jim said about the relatively flat bottom and ride in chop, it is a fantastic boat.

Jim...imagine what you'll have to remove after next season...you'll keep finding places to put stuff.
