I went up to the boat to take measurements for a table and found that the shrink wrap didn't hold up to the weight of the snow and ice. The mid section dropped down and crushed my radar and canvas. Needless to say I'm not a happy camper I was assured that it will be taken care of and not to worry but that's not in my nature. I went and had a stiff drink I did get a call that the snow has been removed and the damage is not as bad as I thought but it's bad enough. So my advice check you boats if I waited any longer it probably would have taken out my windshield as well.

As a side note I was there last week to check on it after the snow and thought it was OK I had to go on board to tell.

I wish you as the best and Happy Holidays.

My boat is at SPBM. Is that where yours is? Did they shrink wrap it? I don't shrink wrap with my canvas on. The bimini canvas is at home and the fram is folded down. I have a sedan bridge so the shrink wrap is really pitched. I don't think anything could sit on top of it.

I winter next door at Patsy Bay however I do not use there service, I have my own contractor do my work. This is the first year with this boat on my last boat I never even thought about leaving the canvas up. This year several people suggested that I do so. I was told the top that I have struggled with every Spring will be on and fit right. Well Now its off, stretched out and in need of repair.

i was there a few days ago and noticed a couple boats that had the shrink wrap calapse also. I also noticed alot to the boats shrink wrapped this year were flapping around in the wind. they didnt do a very good job. i'd be pretty pissed off if i paid all that money to have it flapping like a tarp or even calapse.

Sorry to hear that. Do you have an open array? If so, it should not be used to support the shrink wrap like that. A lot of yards will take it off.

It might be time for a ride up to Haverstraw to check on my boat.

John;

If you do before I get there, would you please glance over at mine?
I'll do the same.

I had an open array radar now its a twisted mess. This too shall pass. They said they would fix or replace and I believe that to be true. Is Spring here yet?

One third of the way there.

I went to West Marine yesterday. Don't need anything. Just wanted to smell the boat supplies. Got there at 4:30 but they closed at 4.

ALL shrink wrapped boats in Haverstraw's west yard appear to be in great shape.

The trick is to keep the shrinkwrap high and steep enough so no snow sits on ot at all....

Tell that to the boatyard!

I have a 15' beam on an express cruiser the shrink look high enough but there is just so much surface area that the snow can sit on. I'm not sure how they are going to fix. This is their second attempt already. We notice the problem early the first time so there wasn't much damage. I just hope the repairs are complete before I'm ready to to go back in, in the Spring.

"Tell that to the boatyard!" For what some of them charge you shouldn't have to ! Nothing worse than finding a broken windshield or damage due to poor winter prep . I remember one year back in 95 0r 96 I think , there was a lot of damage to boats because of a lot of snow that winter.
Even though it is a pain .... If you can , you should check on and remove snow from the shrinkwrap when possible

It was brought to my attention that in an earlier and now corrected post, that I my have led some of you to believe that Pasty Bay had done the shrink wrap on my boat that failed and caused damage. It was not their yard that did my work and and sorry that I gave that impression. This being said I not upset with the shop that did the work as far as I'm concerned this is a boat and it falls under Sh-t happens. The reason for the post was to make sure that you check your boats before you have damage as well.
Wake my in the Spring.

John/Pete..just an FYI. We drive by the marina at least once/twice a week. We always check on boats we know. If anything is wrong we would give you a call.
