Cracked Vinyl Upholstery - Can It Be Restored?

Our interior upholstery for two dinettes is very cracked. I'm wondering if there is a way to recondition this vinyl instead of replacing it. Is it possible to dye the vinyl? I know this won't fill in the cracks, but it may make them less noticeable since the cracks right now are a lighter shade of color than the non-cracked areas.

Thanks in advance for any recommendations!

Not really. The damage is already done ( to the entire piece ). Essentially, the plastic has already delaminated from th fabric, but the rest has not yet fallen off...

If, for some reason, replacement is not currently possible, maybe a "slip cover" would be useful ( for a while ).

imho.

You can buy vinyl dye in spray cans at your auto parts store (Parks Auto carries a good brand). I had to replace the coiled cord on my black microphone and all that was available was white. Black vinyl dye made the white cord black in short order. Website here:

Dye will change the color, but not repair cracks.

Thanks everyone - I'm going to try the spray dye. Even though it won't fix the cracks, it will at least make the cracks the same color as the vinyl and that should drastically improve how the cushions look. That should be fine for a season or two and then we can decide if we want to spend the big bucks for new cushions.

Reupholsterring seat cushions is not that complicated. If you can wrap a gift, you've got the basic process. There are videos and books on the internet showing how. Just remember to use stainless steel staples. I've redone the seats on three different boats already. Check out Sailright's web site. Hy
